The benefits of Compression Therapy are plentiful and the reasons vary from person to person why you may choose to wear compression socks or stockings. As shown in the above chart, some of the most prevalent symptoms or conditions that benefit from compression therapy are:

  • Pregnancy related swelling and vein problems
  • Varicose or spider veins
  • Lymphedema or edema
  • Swelling, pain or blood clots in the lower legs, also known as DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis)
  • Poor circulation from sitting for long periods
  • Post-surgical and post-sclerotherapy treatment

It can even be used as a preventive measure to maintain healthy legs for someone who spends extensive amounts of time on their feet. Quite simply, when we stand still for long periods, the forces of gravity increase the pressure within the veins of the legs where the greater effects happen at the ankle and decreases gradually up the leg and body. This pressure depends on the vertical distance of the column of blood from the heart to the foot. That's why gradient compression stockings are designed with the pressure greatest at the ankle and diminishing as it moves up the leg in order to counter the effects of the higher venous pressures.

Compression therapy products are put on in the morning upon arising, which is typically before any significant swelling would occur, and then removed at night. Throughout the day the compression prevents blood from pooling in leg veins, which in turn helps your overall circulation and lessens or eliminates any leg swelling you may have.

When shopping for compression socks or stockings, it is best to measure earlier in the day before swelling builds in the legs. Measurements taken later in the day after swelling occurs may cause you to choose an item that is too large and then not effective.

There are many types of compression socks and stockings available without a prescription and they do offer wide-ranging benefits. Before wearing a compression therapy of 20 mmHg (Firm Compression) and above, it is generally recommended to consult your health care provider to find out if graduated compression stockings are right for you. If the answer is yes, they can tell you what pressure grade you should buy for maximum benefit and relief.

Bought these but they are to long, I want footless for the summer, any suggestions? Asked by Rosemary

All calf sleeves are the same length. We suggest not to stretch them too much. This item is to sit below the bend of the knee.

Better for me than the socks with feet. 1 people found this helpful

Because of fluid retension and venous insufficiency I've been wearing compression hose since 2007. Thes sleeves are a lot easier for mr to get on in the morning and a litle difficult to remove at night but not to onerous. The support they provide is just right forr my current situation.

    Easy on.

Harder to remove but not much more than the footed hose.

A Big Help 0 people found this helpful

I love the leg sleeves so much easier than the footed socks. I've been wearing them while waiting for my hip replacement surgery; they seem to help my legs not be so fatigued. I've worn them after knee surgery too. I find them good for air travel and long car trips. They do wash up nicely. This time I am going to try a larger size to see if I can get them off easier. They go on easily but I need help pulling them off.

These have helped me so much! 0 people found this helpful

I use these for all walking now. I have mild varicose veins and these help so much. I can go farther and don't feel fatigued. The widest part of my calf is 14", got size Large and that works well. They feel firm but not too tight.

very comfortable support sleeve 1 people found this helpful

This is the first summer (in Missouri) that I am wearing support knee socks. I find the sleeves quite comfortable even under my long summer weight pants. At home I wear them with Capri pants!!!
They are easy to put on: while sitting on the floor, I slip entire sleeve over my foot first and then I grab the upper edge and pull the entire sleeve over my calf.
When I take them off, I find it easiest when I stand and pull the top rim down over my heel. Then I pull the part that is still on my leg o
Read morever my heel and finally I can pull off the entire sleeve.
Those sleeves reduce the bulging of my veins, even on my thighs. I definitively recommend wearing them daily and all day long.

Easy to put on 0 people found this helpful

Since I like to wear sandals with my pants, I thought this would be a good idea - and they feel good. Toeless knee highs do NOT stay in place on the foot, so NOT the answer I was looking for. However, these sleeves cause my ankles to swell, so I cannot wear them; I need the compression around the ankle... Too bad.
