Compression

Compression stockings are medical grade devices designed to move blood flow.

Support compression stockings are made available in multiple compression support levels. Most commonly compression support stockings come in mild (8-15 mmHg), Medium (15-20 mmHg), Firm (20-30 mmHg), X-Firm (30-40 mmHg) gradient compression levels.

Compression Therapy Guide

Mild
  • Provides relief and minimizes tired and achy legs.
  • Prevents fatigued legs from long periods of sitting or standing.
  • Helps relieve minor swelling of feet, ankles, and legs.
  • During pregnancy, helps prevent the formation of varicose and spider veins.
  • Helps maintain healthy, energized legs.
First Time Wearing Compression Stockings? We recommend you start with 15-20mmHg
Medium
  • For the prevention and relief of minor to moderate varicose and spider veins.
  • Helps relieve tired, aching legs, and minor swelling of feet, ankles, and legs.
  • During pregnancy, helps prevent varicose veins and spider veins.
  • Helps prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT), also known as economy class syndrome.
  • Used in post-sclerotherapy treatment to help prevent the reappearance of varicose veins and spider veins.
  • Ideal compression level used for those traveling long distances.
Firm
  • Helps prevent and relieve moderate to severe varicose veins (also during pregnancy).
  • For post-surgical and post-sclerotherapy treatment to help prevent the reappearance of varicose and spider veins.
  • Helps in treatment of moderate to severe edema or lymphatic edema.
  • Helps with the management of active ulcers and manifestations of post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS).
  • Helps relieve superficial thrombophlebitis.
  • Helps prevent orthostatic hypotension (sudden fall in blood pressure when standing).
  • Helps prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT), also known as economy class syndrome.
Extra Firm
  • Helps prevent and relieve severe varicose veins.
  • Used in the treatment of severe edema and lymphedema.
  • Used in post-surgical and post-sclerotherapy treatment to help prevent the reappearance of varicose and spider veins.
  • Helps reduce symptoms of Orthostatic Hypotension and Postural Hypotension
  • For the management of Venous Ulcers and manifestations of Post-Thrombotic Syndrome (PTS).
  • Prevents deep vein thrombosis (DVT), also known as economy class syndrome.
RX 40-50 mmHg Gradient Compression Stockings are generally indicated for more Serious Venous Diseases such as Acute Leg/Ankle Swelling, Varicose Veins, Chronic Vein Insufficiency and Deep Vein Thrombosis.

The benefits of Compression Therapy are plentiful and the reasons vary from person to person why you may choose to wear compression socks or stockings. As shown in the above chart, some of the most prevalent symptoms or conditions that benefit from compression therapy are:

  • Pregnancy related swelling and vein problems
  • Varicose or spider veins
  • Lymphedema or edema
  • Swelling, pain or blood clots in the lower legs, also known as DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis)
  • Poor circulation from sitting for long periods
  • Post-surgical and post-sclerotherapy treatment

It can even be used as a preventive measure to maintain healthy legs for someone who spends extensive amounts of time on their feet. Quite simply, when we stand still for long periods, the forces of gravity increase the pressure within the veins of the legs where the greater effects happen at the ankle and decreases gradually up the leg and body. This pressure depends on the vertical distance of the column of blood from the heart to the foot. That's why gradient compression stockings are designed with the pressure greatest at the ankle and diminishing as it moves up the leg in order to counter the effects of the higher venous pressures.

Compression therapy products are put on in the morning upon arising, which is typically before any significant swelling would occur, and then removed at night. Throughout the day the compression prevents blood from pooling in leg veins, which in turn helps your overall circulation and lessens or eliminates any leg swelling you may have.

When shopping for compression socks or stockings, it is best to measure earlier in the day before swelling builds in the legs. Measurements taken later in the day after swelling occurs may cause you to choose an item that is too large and then not effective.

There are many types of compression socks and stockings available without a prescription and they do offer wide-ranging benefits. Before wearing a compression therapy of 20 mmHg (Firm Compression) and above, it is generally recommended to consult your health care provider to find out if graduated compression stockings are right for you. If the answer is yes, they can tell you what pressure grade you should buy for maximum benefit and relief.

Hello, I have Juzo Dynamic thigh/hi w/sil,3513AGSBSH IV. The stocking reaches G on the size chart. Way to high and difficult to put on with IT stays. Is it possible I have regular not the short? Pls advise. Thanx Lance Cullen Asked by Lance

The regular length would be longer; for a shorter length, you would need the petite length.

WOW!!! I'm obsessed with these hose!! 0 people found this helpful
    Overall

    Fit

I have loved 30-40mmg hose for years and was afraid to try 40-50 mmhg thinking it would be too much. But let me tell you.....MIND BLOWING!! Now I can't keep them off!! Won't buy anything else!
It absolutely is hard to get them up over my ankles. Might need to get one of those donning tools. But it's SO worth the price and effort because the feeling with them on is absolutely divine. As soon as they are up and smoothed out (use the gloves) the perfectly tapered compression instantly hugs your feet and ankles with authority. And then, all the way up the leg with perfection, unlike so many sheerer types that you can never truly get even, graduated compression out of. The stretchy-ness of these is like no other material and is what makes them so special. Versatile across body types and shapes. The name "Dynamic" is spot-on.
As soon as you move, the massaging is just electrifying and stimulating. A bit shocking at first. It's like they are powered by some invisible force field. And it DOESN'T STOP when you sit and lounge. They just keep doing that amazing thing they do, even sitting still. So soothing and relaxing, you can fall asleep in them, and will. Doesn't take long to get addicted and feel like something is out of place when you AREN'T wearing them.
It's important to go on the SHORTER sizing with these because otherwise they will bind and pinch. So many people think sizing up is better to avoid binding, but the opposite is true because the material needs to stretch a little to maintain the even, perfectly graduated compression. Don't be afraid to hike them up a bit. You'll need to use a long-leg body shaper to hold them up. Which works out perfect because although the pantyhose version of these are just as incredible, they are twice the price. And although these last a longer time than thinner hose, they will need to get replaced as they do lose compression over time. Can't avoid that. So using a bike-short shaper helps with that. These are also available in "garter style" if the silicone band irritates you. I generally don't have a problem with it and kind of enjoy the feel of the extra tension of the top band, as long as it doesn't fold, which usually isn't a problem under a shaper short with the long leg part holding it down, smoothing and moderating the band tension. The garter style with smooth tops can be held up with shaper shorts as well and feel seamless. Those work better with a higher compression shaper in order to get enough tension on the thighs to keep up them up without the silicone band.
Another tip is, when wearing sneakers or boots...is to wear a regular sock over them because without it, the friction of the material inside footwear will cause pilling and premature wear of the fabric. A sock insulates from that and even enhances the compression around your arch even further, which feels great.
Try these and you won't regret it. They have become the first thing I think of and reach for in the morning with anticipation. *IF* I am not waking up with them on for not having wanted to take them off the night before because it felt so heavenly to just doze off in them. LOL!

Perfect "dynamic" material provides the firmest, most evenly graduated compression and most intense leg-massaging and soothing action available.

I purchased thigh high stockings for international air travel. They were too long for my legs so I had to fold them over at the top, which didn't work very well -- cut off circulation. I will purchase a new set one strength lower and hopefully shorter since they are good quality, just didn't fit well and were tighter than necessary for air travel.
