I wear this brand because it is one of the few that can give me the 45-50 compression required to control lymphedema in one of my legs. I wear the thigh-high stocking with silicone band and open toe. I would love to see a garment which can deliver the compression and control which isn't so thick and dark, but I haven't found one yet. Also, I am tall, and this stocking is a bit short which means I have to tug at it to keep pulling it up. It's not perfect, but I have tried several other brands and this one works the best.

The Mediven Plus Thigh High is the most comfortable support garment I have worn over the last 45 years. The compression is good for 2 to 3 for months at its best and the garments are durable. Every once in a while I get one that doesn't stay in place and I end up tugging at it the whole time I am wearing it. But that doesn't happen all the time. The service from Discount Surgical Stockings has been excellent. The garments arrive quickly and the price is reasonable. I am happy to find an online source for these garments with the high compression I require to keep my lymphedema in check.

Thanks to the late Dr. Peter Brown of Richmond, VA, I have been wearing the strongest surgical stocking on my RT leg for decades. Stockings have changed for the better over the years and Medi quickly became my favorites because they look the best while still getting the job done.

Second time unhappy with purchase. Stocking was not good again...runny threads.. However, been using medi for years and this is about the second time of late that it happened. Not interested in sharing this review as I know it is not the norm, but it is frustrating. Of the pair, only one is usable so I ve been using and washing that one, hence in no time, I d need to replace them..and they are not cheap...

I didn't know if stockings bought on line would be the same quality as those I usually buy at the store but they seem to be fine. Buying them on sale also makes them cheaper. So, i'm happy.

I have worn compression stockings for 10+ years related to a lymph node removal surgery for cancer. I have tried many types, brands and styles of stockings and the Medi are my favorite and fit better than even custom made for me.

The Medi 40-50 mm /hg hose are a satisfactory color and the thigh highs are fantastic. BE sure to order the Silicone border. AND I love the open toe [You can wear thongs (the shoes) and show off your pedicure!] I do wish they had hose in matching color for my other leg (a hose of normal or slight compression.) I usually go bare-legged or wear slacks. I have radiation induced lymphedema from cancer treatment in 2000. I underwent lymph drainage therapy and was custom fitted with a Jobst stocking, sewed exactly for 4-5 leg measures and also my hips [a one legged hose with attached hip band. At that time the stockings had to be ordered from Germany and the silicone border was not available!] I soon got used to wearing them (much better than a blood clot) and have continued doing so though the compression does not have to be as high. The hardest part for me was getting them on. I required help as I could not reach my toes. That obstacle was circumvented with a metal gizmo available from Jobst. A few years went by and I discovered the availability of compression hose on line and without a prescription. THAT WAS GREAT!

my husband has had quite a few lymph nodes removed in his groin area due to cancer surgery. he has been wearing these stockings for 13 yrs for a minimum of 12 hrs/day. they are a part of his life. discount surgical is a wonderful company, ordering is easy, price is good, never any mistakes and these stockings really last a long time (12 mo) generally and i wash them on gentle with regular detergent. always hang to dry. very, very satisfied with discount surgical!

I have been a DSS customer for years and am always pleased with the prompt service and quality of their products. These stockings are the most comfortable I have worn. They are smoother than other brands and don't tend to cling to pants or skirts. I love the silicone band at the top. It always keeps the stockings in place without the use of messy glues. They aren't the best color and I do wish the manufacturer could improve on this but it isn't a reflection of Discount Surgical at all.

Q & A

Ask a Question
1 question for this item
Q: what is silcon grip top?
A: The Silicone Grip top will keep the garment up without the use of glue or garters its sewn into the top band
Questions that are on Your Mind
Q: Can you help me with sizing?
A: You can view the size chart here: size chart
You will need accurate measurements, so first learn how to measure.
Q: What is compression? What is the difference in compression?
A: You wear compression stockings to improve blood flow in your legs. Compression stockings gently squeeze your legs to move blood up your legs. This helps prevent leg swelling and, to a lesser extent, blood clots.
Q: What does mmHg mean?
A: mmhg stands for "millimeter of mercury", a way to measure pressure. The higher the number, the tighter the garment will squeeze and the more compression it provides.
Q: How can we wash the garments? And with which soap or detergent?
A: We recommend to hand wash in warm water and air dry. You can use mild soup of the washing solution that we provide such as the jobst jolastic, hosiery mate washing solution, sigvaris liquid washing solution etc. See our full washing instructions.
Q: What is the difference between open toe and close toe?
A: There is no therapeutic difference between open and closed toe socks. The choice is yours, whichever is more comfortable.
Q: What is opaque?
A: Opaque is a thicker material that provides great coverage and your skin will be far less visible. Usually worn in winter because of the thickness.
Q: What is sheer?
A: Sheer is a thinner, dressier material. Customer usually like these because they can use them as dress socks for work or church.
Q: Do I get compression at the toe area?
A: No. Compression begins at the ankle and gradually lessens as it goes up the leg. This reduces pooling in the legs and helps the veins return blood to the heart.
Q: Will a thicker material give me more support than the sheer material?
A: No. The compression provided is measured by mmHg and is the same no matter the material. The choice of material is up to you, whichever is more comfortable.
Q: If I get pantyhose will I get more compression than with a knee-hi?
A: No.
