The benefits of Compression Therapy are plentiful and the reasons vary from person to person why you may choose to wear compression socks or stockings. As shown in the above chart, some of the most prevalent symptoms or conditions that benefit from compression therapy are:

  • Pregnancy related swelling and vein problems
  • Varicose or spider veins
  • Lymphedema or edema
  • Swelling, pain or blood clots in the lower legs, also known as DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis)
  • Poor circulation from sitting for long periods
  • Post-surgical and post-sclerotherapy treatment

It can even be used as a preventive measure to maintain healthy legs for someone who spends extensive amounts of time on their feet. Quite simply, when we stand still for long periods, the forces of gravity increase the pressure within the veins of the legs where the greater effects happen at the ankle and decreases gradually up the leg and body. This pressure depends on the vertical distance of the column of blood from the heart to the foot. That's why gradient compression stockings are designed with the pressure greatest at the ankle and diminishing as it moves up the leg in order to counter the effects of the higher venous pressures.

Compression therapy products are put on in the morning upon arising, which is typically before any significant swelling would occur, and then removed at night. Throughout the day the compression prevents blood from pooling in leg veins, which in turn helps your overall circulation and lessens or eliminates any leg swelling you may have.

When shopping for compression socks or stockings, it is best to measure earlier in the day before swelling builds in the legs. Measurements taken later in the day after swelling occurs may cause you to choose an item that is too large and then not effective.

There are many types of compression socks and stockings available without a prescription and they do offer wide-ranging benefits. Before wearing a compression therapy of 20 mmHg (Firm Compression) and above, it is generally recommended to consult your health care provider to find out if graduated compression stockings are right for you. If the answer is yes, they can tell you what pressure grade you should buy for maximum benefit and relief.

How tall of a person does the regular fit go up to? My husband is 6' tall. Asked by vicki

We determine the length by measuring from under the buttocks to the bottom of the heel. If this length is from 28 1/4-32 3/4 in or 72-83 cm the garment should fit.

My new go-to compression hose! 0 people found this helpful

I've been wearing compression hose for about 20 years and Jobst Relief was my last favorite brand but since I've tried Juzo Soft I'm hooked. Juzo soft is softer, has better compression in the ankles, and the toeless hose fit better than other brands.

Better compression in the ankles to help reduce the risk of venous ulcers.

They take more effort to put on.
    More expensive.

This brand and style of stocking is by far the most comfortable and versatile. There aren’t many brands that offer 3 length options. I’m 5’2” and order these in petite. As other brands tend to pinch, have an awkward fit, or snag, I’ve not had any issue with this style... And I’ve gone through about 15 pair so far. They say to use for only 6 months, which I feels is true with any brand as the elasticity degrades; however, caring for them and following the proper washing instructions certainly exRead moretends optimal usage time. Additionally, as recommended, should wash after each use as that also maintains elasticity and optimal compression.

I’ve also tried the Juzo Basic style, as they cost less: ordered short as they don’t come in petite. Regardless, I found there to be a huge difference in quality and support. I ordered them to save money, but backfired as I never wear them.

Easy to use. Very comfortable. Many options for sizing.

Cost. As it’s best to have multiple pair to rotate through, it is costly to maintain and replace. That said, there is a noticeable difference in comfort and performance, so that’s what you’re paying for.

Excellent fit, easy to apply, hides varicose veins, cinnamon color attractive. Only dissatisfaction is that stitching in crouch of pantyhose separates after 3-4 wearings in more than half of my hose.

Happy feet with one minor 'needs to improve' 1 people found this helpful

They are easy to apply. Comfortable to wear. Attractive enough for work. Durable enough for serious workouts and hikes. Cinnamon is a pretty color, but I find beige is too pale and 'chalky' in appearance. The one issue I have after wearing several pairs of the 2002AT is that the stitching in the seat of the panty has failed after only 1-3 wearings in 4 of the garments this past year since I started wearing them. I have worn many different brands over the past 20 years since my DVT and Read morenot previously seen this as a consistent problem.
